Professional Tech Pack Design

Yes — any reputable clothing manufacturer will require a tech pack before producing samples or providing an accurate quote. Without one, you cannot hold your factory accountable to your design.

That is completely fine. Most of our clients start with rough ideas, reference images, or hand-drawn sketches. Our Design Handover Template guides you through exactly what we need, and our designers do the technical work from there.

Turnaround varies based on complexity and style count, but most garment tech pack jobs are completed within 5-10 business days. The average lead time to start a tech pack job is 4 weeks after the job is locked in, this varies though the year. Tech packs can only be scheduled once: design handover is confirmed ready, supporting files (eg branding) is confirmed correct file format, any physical sample or fabric references are ready, and invoice is paid. 

Absolutely. Your tech pack is yours. You can take it to any manufacturer — including our recommended factory partners — and use it to request competitive quotes.

A tech pack contains all the design specifications and instructions for manufacturing. A pattern is the physical or digital template used to cut the fabric. Both are needed for production — the tech pack comes first.

Your existing tech packs can be used to obtain manufacturing quotations and for the initial sample. However, we cannot edit tech packs created by someone else during the subsequent phases of sample reports and tech pack updates. This is for legal and ethical reasons, but also for a number of practical reasons, especially when files are made non-editable.

To ensure the highest quality outcomes, seamless integration with our production processes, and the best possible pricing & priorities from our manufacturing partners, our standard policy is to recreate your tech pack internally using our proprietary templates, standards, and formats.

Why we recreate tech packs (rather than editing external ones):

• Full compatibility and accuracy: Third-party files often use different (and often less precise and detailed) conventions, which can lead to misinterpretations, extra sample revisions, and delays during sampling and bulk runs. This typically ends up being a costly development process for our clients (and factory), which risks strained relationships with manufacturing partners.
• Error reduction and risk mitigation: Recreation allows our Design and Production Manager to verify every element against your handover (and sample references), current sourcing realities, and our quality controls; minimising fit issues, material mismatches, or costly re-samples.
• Alignment with our ecosystem: This ensures your project stays within our standard process, benefits from our negotiated manufacturer advantages, and flows smoothly through staged approvals, fit/SMS/PP sample reports, and bulk tracking.
• IP and confidentiality protection: We reserve rights to our templates and notations, while you retain full ownership of the core design content upon payment.

Recreating your tech packs during the sample report stage is not duplication: it’s optimisation to deliver superior results, lower long-term risks, and faster market entry. Many clients find the upfront investment pays off quickly through fewer revisions, accurate unit costing earlier, and smoother production.

While AI tools can be useful for initial design concepts or inspiration, AI is not a garment technician. It cannot accurately produce the detailed specifications required for reliable production quoting, sampling, or manufacturing.

AI-generated files often contain errors in measurements, construction details, grading, materials, trims, and tolerances that can lead to costly mistakes, delays, poor fit, quality issues, or production failures. For this reason, we do not accept AI-generated tech packs for production quotes, sampling coordination, or factory manufacturing. In addition, we cannot update these tech packs through the development stages. Whenever producing with our factories, it is best that we produce the tech packs to ensure accuracy and clarity for our Manufacturers, as well as being able to edit them as updates will be needed in sample stages.
